Notes on Doctor Keen:
Doctor Keen and the Phenomenal 50 is an 8 part serialized story that begins with this episode. This is part 1. We had originally attempted this story in 2018 but our way of doing the story (a concept we called the”Budget” version and the joke was that there was no music or sound effects and references were in relation to how the show was on a “budget” was funny as a concept but the subject deserved our traditional method of story telling. Further, it was written by Shelby Peck, Lana Peck’s father, as a serialized story so we took that as our cue to make it a serial here.
The music is John Philip Sousa, the request of Lana. I had written a mysterious melody but the character is more triumphant and one is hard pressed to find a more triumphant musical element than a Sousa march. I did create the organ background while Doctor Keen says the “Oath of Righteousness”, a particularly fun word salad.
Fanny and Fred
We performed “Wilberforce Stands Alone” at the Torrington Historical Society. It was written specifically for an event at the Historical Society, inspired by the photo of a dog standing on a plant stand in Torrington. The original live performance featured Jason Kulas in the role of Flubs. Both versions were a lot of fun.
Space Sentries
This story was performed live in April for Falls Village, it was such a fun story we wanted to present the studio version.
“Moby Dick: The Radio Play.” Part Two. This production is based on the Herman Melville novel and has been adapted for radio by Phil Hall. The original music score and sound effects are the work of Bob Eccleston. Additional music was performed by Robert C. Fullerton.
Moby Dick Part 2 featured the voices of:
Rich Cyr as Ishmael,
Phil Hall as Captain Ahab
Danny Saed as Queequeg and Daggoo.
Jandi Hanna as Mrs. Coffin and voice in the church
Jeff Savage as Father Mapple and Starbuck,
Olivia Wadsworth as Pip and voice in the church
Lana Peck as Elijah and voice in the church
Robert C. Fullerton as Stubb,
Kurt Boucher as Flask and the Carpenter,
Jack Sheedy as both Tashtego and the Captain of the Rachel,
Jerry Crystal as Captain DeVere,
J. Timothy Quirk as Peleg
The production of this radio play, was directed and produced by J. Timothy Quirk and recorded WAPJ, Torrington Community Radio in Torrington, Connection.
Moby Dick: The Radio Play Adapted by Phil Hall was an idea offered by Phil Hall in July 2018 and through tenacity and determination, the concept became a reality, airing December 1st, 2019. Through many rehearsals and rewrites and multiple recording sessions throughout 2019. The first draft of the first section of the story written by Hall in October 2018 with a subsequent rewrite that December. After the April Nutmeg Junction celebration, more focus was placed on Moby Dick. A second draft was submitted in July 2019 and then after more rewrites, the third version was ready in August and the majority of the show was recorded in September. After Nutmeg Junction performed two more live shows (one in October, one November), the editing process commenced.

Show Notes
Professor A was one of the first regularly recurring Nutmeg Junction characters. Originally appearing in the fifth episode of the entire program, Professor A has returned many times with one-shot stories and grand epic multi-episode adventures. The most recent Professor A story was a two-parter entitled The Dean of Death. (Episodes 211 and 212).
This episode features two stories which we recorded at two different times and venues. The first we recorded in the studio of WAPJ over the summer. It was so hot inside the studio we often sent actors out if they were not immediately required to say their lines. The Simulacrum marked a fun milestone as it featured many cast members of Tiffy McKay’s “48 hour film project” who were joining us at that time for the first time (Jason Kulas, Amanda Yount, AJ Lin)
The second story was recorded LIVE at Citizens TV in Hamden for the Nerd Talk episode in October. This particular story featured Michael Illian and Catarina Quinonez into the Professor A-verse and was written in such a way that when it is heard a second time, the listener can appreciate the points in time where Illian and Themy (Quinonez) are compared to where/when Professor A and Robere are in the story. Tiffy Mckay was unavailable for the recording so this story most likely would be placed in a time line before Ms. Gentry joined the Professor and Robere in the vortex corridor. David Robinson jumped in to assist us as the voice of the computer.
